She founded her own band:
Dodson bravely decided to launch her very own punk rock indie band, which she named Saving Jane, while she was still a college student at Ohio State University. Dodson was the lead singer of Saving Jane, a band which went to on to achieve huge success. In fact, Saving Jane was one of the top selling indie bands of the 2000s.
Girl Next Door:
One of Saving Jane’s most popular songs was Girl Next Door, which funnily enough was inspired by a beautiful mystery woman that Dodson spotted in the crowd of one of the band’s shows. At the time Dodson instantly thought, the same thing many other women were thinking in the room, that they wished they could be or look like the mystery girl.
While Dodson is now known as a talented songwriter and music producer, she still sings, although she now sings as a solo artist, rather than in a band.
Work with Luke Bryan:
Dodson has the opportunity to write songs for one of the hottest country artists in the country, Luke Bryan. Who is also known for being a judge on the longstanding singing show American Idol. One of the tracks which she wrote for Bryan is You Look Like Rain and compares a beautiful woman to the rain and how sometimes you meet the right person, at the right time. Just as how sometimes it rains, just when you need it to rain.
Quarterback is a track which Dodson wrote for a Canadian country artist named Kira Isabella and tells the story of a young woman who gets sexually taken advantage of in public, by a football player, in a town where everyone is aware of her misfortune. in 2014, when Quarterback was released it was named the number 1 country track by Rolling Stones magazine. Which is a testament to Dodson’s skill as a songwriter.
Dodson was inspired to pen a song about quarantine titled Quarantine which is set to be released in September.
Dodson’s advice for up and coming song writers and artists is to work on their networking skills. While Dodson admits that networking doesn’t come naturally to her, she highlights the importance of attending industry events in order to make valuable contacts. She also highly recommends that budding songwriters join free online forums, where they’ll be able to bounce their ideas off other songwriters.
Another piece of advice which she has for aspiring music writers is to write as much as possible and to try co-writing songs with other songwriters, in order to hone their skills.
In conclusion, if you’re a fan of Saving Jane, it’s a great idea to check out music from Dodson’s solo career as well as some of the other tracks that she’s written for famous country artists such as Luke Bryan.
