FIRST PEPSI, NOW WORMS:
Hallie Kate Eisenberg hits the big screen

By Traci J. Grant

Think back to the days of Pepsi, pre major celebrity endorsements, and you might remember Hallie Kate Eisenberg, the curly haired kid cutie with those adorable little dimples. Not so little anymore, but still just as adorable, Hallie is now fourteen years old, and about to start 9th grade.

School is approaching quickly, but these days Hallie has another place to be: the movies. She'll play Erika in this summer's slimiest flick, How to Eat Fried Worms, which comes out on August 25th. Hallie explains, "It’s about a new kid, [Billy], and he’s bullied by the big school tough guy; they put worms in his lunch. Everyone gets scared of [the bully], but [Billy] is too smart for that. He stands up to him, and they end up making a bet that Billy has to eat ten worms in one day. The loser has to come to school with worms in his pants. It’s all about the cooking of the worms and the different things the boys do with them, and the bet playing itself out."

Continues Hallie, "My character, she’s in Billy’s grade, and she gets teased a lot for being kind of tall and gawky, but right away her character realizes that the new boy is being picked on, and she befriends him, and helps him along. She’s kind of like the conscience, because when Billy thinks that he doesn’t want to go through with the bet, or he wants to quit, she tells him just win it true, for everyone, and stand up to the bully."

It's a film about kids, for kids, and it is sure to be a fun-filled time. Hallie sure had a good time. "Filming with everyone was great, because we all love to act. It was really like camp for us."

Content to keep it "camp-like," Hallie looks for roles that don't take her away for the long term. "For me, it would just be hard to leave. I have five pets at home, my brother and sister, my parents, and my horse, so it would just be really hard for me to leave all that for so long."

In a business that often forces kids to grow up too fast, it's nice to see a girl who wants to stay home, and who still has time to "horse" around. "I have a horse and I horseback ride pretty much every day. Even when I don’t ride, I’m at the farm, making sure he has food and water." Adds Hallie, "I’m also very into circus performing. I love going to local circuses. I don’t go to the big ones with the animals, because I don’t like how they treat them; I’m a vegetarian, and an animal rights person. But I go to the performing circuses all the time, and I was actually in the circus. I do the devil sticks."

Clearly, Hallie has always loved to perform, and unlike many child stars, her early start has been a positive experience for her. "I’ve really gotten to be around so many different kinds of people and cultures, whether they worked on the movie, or they lived in the place that we were filming. It really opened me up to so many different things in the world. Working with adults a lot, too, has helped me think about things differently."

What does the future hold for this bright young lady? "I don’t have any plans right now, but we’ll see if things come along. I actually want to go to medical school and become a doctor." With Hallie's focus and drive, she'll succeed in whatever path she chooses to follow. And if she changes her mind about becoming a doctor, well, she can always play one in the movies, someday!
