Alex Borstein
THE WOMAN BEHIND THE VOICE:
Alex Borstein
By Traci J. Grant
Alex Borstein knows a lot about comebacks. But it's not because she's been out of work. She started her career as a cast member on Mad TV and has since been seen in The Lizzie McGuire Movie, Bad Santa, and Catwoman. However, she's best known as Lois Griffin, today's most popular cartoon mother, on Fox's Family Guy. The show recently came back to life in Fox's Sunday lineup and Alex Borstein certainly knows why. "Family guy came back to life because of the fans. They watched it on Adult Swim (Cartoon Network) and they went out and bought the DVD sets. The sales went through the roof and the network realized what a mistake they made."
More Family Guy means more entertainment, more laughs, and of course, more Alex. But she's more than just a voice. Alex has also written for the series and is a co-producer this season.
But, as Alex explains, it's not a one man, or in this case, one woman show. "I, along with 16 other writers sit in a writer's room and write and re-write scripts. We're all responsible for all of the jokes, so I don't wanna start listing gags that I may recall pitching. It's very much a group effort."
Alex is considered today to be one of the funniest women out there. What does she have to say on the matter? "Thanks for the compliment!"

From Alex: a little scoop on Seth MacFarlane: "He's one of the funniest people I've ever met. Very talented. He writes, draws and voices...way too busy."
Alex has always been funny; it's just that now she's finally being recognized as one of the funniest women in the country. "I was a bit of a class clown. Although not very well known or popular, I was just a clown to my few friends." Of course now, with her ever-growing fan base, Alex is not only very popular, but a clown to many friends!
All her clowning around has finally paid off and Alex is making audiences around the world laugh with Family Guy. Naturally, the question on everyone's mind is who and what she finds amusing on the hilarious show. "Like everyone else on the planet, I love Stewie. There are some new lines in the upcoming shows that tickle me. Looking forward to seeing them on the tube."
Good luck finding time for that, Alex! The multi-talented star is keeping busy with all kinds of new endeavors. "I am in the George Clooney film Good Night and Good Luck that will be released sometime in early 2006. It'll be at the Venice Film Festival in late August. I'm looking forward to that! I am also busy editing my live comedy show on DVD and will be selling it at my website www.alexborstein.com. I also just finished developing a TV show for the Disney Channel." In addition, Alex has lent her voice to another Family Guy project, Stewie Griffin: The Untold Story! which will be released soon.
While it's evident to her fans that Alex's career has taken off and will continue to soar to new heights, Alex, ever the humble star, says that in the next few years she sees her career heading, "Up? Let's hope."
