TheStarScoop.Com talked to Verse Simmonds about his upcoming album, "Stories of a Bachelor," his single "Buy You a Round" and his mixtape, "The Sextape Chronicles."

The Star Scoop:

Tell us about how you would describe what your music sounds like.

Verse Simmonds:

Okay. I think what should people should expect from Verse Simmonds as an artist and from my music I think is something different and new. It has an R&B feel to it, but then it's still hip hop and Caribbean vibes to it because I'm from the Virgin Islands. I think it's something that a lot of people haven't heard before. I'm a writer also, so I write most, well, all of my music. I only have one song on my album, which is called "Stories of a Bachelor," that I had help with. But the rest, I just try to put stories together that I think people could relate to and enjoy.

The Star Scoop:

What goes into your song writing process?

Verse Simmonds:

Most times, it starts with the music. I hear a track or I begin with a producer or I'll be producing an album myself. I'll really just let the music take me where I want to be or where I feel it should go. Music is something that people should just flow with. I try to stick with that and just do the best I can when it comes to writing music. I try to do music that I feel that people could relate to. It's geared toward a more female fan base.

The Star Scoop:

Your first is single, "Buy You a Round." What can you tell us about that song?

Verse Simmonds:

"Buy You a Round" is a real special record. I think coming into the music industry with a song like that...in the path that I'm going in my career...it's something that I didn't have to push on to DJs. I didn't have to force anybody to play it or anything. I feel like a lot of artists coming into the game now really have to harass somebody. It's not a bad thing because if music is your passion, then...you want to get it to as many people...I want to have a record that people hear and automatically love. It was a record that I sat down...and the first thing that came to my mind was [sings], Girl, I like your face and I love your bana. I just want to get to know you better what's your number...and then I just took it from there.

The Star Scoop:

As an upcoming artist, what can you hope for in the next year?

Verse Simmonds:

Ideally, I would like to have a top ten record. If I could do that, that would be...I feel that all my life I've had this dream. I feel like I'm headed [there] now. That I have a song that people love so much that they could make it a top 10. I'm looking forward to dropping my album sometime later this year. At the end of the day, I want people to really hear my music and really enjoy it and feel like they can relate to it. I have stories on my album.

The Star Scoop:

It's really important for your fans to be able to relate to your songs. What else do you want to say directly to your fans?

Verse Simmonds:

I want to tell them that it's a new day and Verse Simmonds is here to save the day. I want people to just enjoy the music. As long as people can enjoy my music, that's really what I'm in this industry for...they appreciate what I'm doing. I strive to be better at it every time I put out another song or album or whatever it may be.

The Star Scoop:

Are there any particular artists who have influenced you as you've developed as artist yourself?

Verse Simmonds:

I think I've developed my own style as an artist. I call it Island B, because like I said, it's a mixture of R&B, a little bit of Caribbean flavor and hip hop, so I call it Island B. I don't think there's much music out there like mine. I've heard that I may sound like a couple people, so I don't know. We'll see.

The Star Scoop:

Music is a huge part of your life. Beyond the music, what should fans know about you?

Verse Simmonds:

I'm a cool person. Down to earth. I'm a regular person. Just a down to earth person. If you see me, come say hi.

The Star Scoop:

What else should people know about your music?

Verse Simmonds:

Yeah. I have a mixtape out right now, called The Sextape Chronicles. It basically is something that people play while they're riding around. It's definitely a making love type of CD. Music that I put together...a vision of who I am as an artist. Check it out on www.versesimmonds.com
