TheStarScoop.Com got the scoop from Kristinia DeBarge. We chatted about her break out hit single, "Goodbye," opening up for Britney Spears and so much more. We just couldn't say "goodbye!"
The Star Scoop:
Tell us about your upcoming album! What should people expect?
Kristinia DeBarge:
Well, pretty much the album is introducing me as an artist. The album inspires empowerment, it inspires confidence...my vulnerability, past love, passion, anger. So that's why I named it "Exposed." I have Babyface on the album with me...and then I have Ryan Tedder. He wrote some songs. It's a good album and I'm excited about it!

What was it like the first time you heard "Goodbye" on the radio?
Kristinia DeBarge:
I was screaming up and down. I was actually at home and listening to New York Radio Online. I had called all my friends, telling them to listen. My mom video taped me. It was really surreal for me. Everytime I hear my song on the radio, I just take it in and [it's] so cool. It's me!
The Star Scoop:
Have you been recognized more since the song came out?
Kristinia DeBarge:
Well, surprisingly enough, I'm not getting as recognized as I thought I would be at this point. I definiely have gotten recognized by people here and there but nothing detrimental. It's not to the point where I can't walk outside...I still pretty much feel like a normal girl.
The Star Scoop:
It was announced you're going to tour with Britney Spears!
Kristinia DeBarge:
Yeah, I am! I'm so excited about it, to be the opening act. I still haven't spoken to her yet, but I'm hoping to talk to her, get to talk on the phone, and I get to meet her in person. I really admire her work. She's a hard worker and a great performer. It will be a really fun time for me. I'm going on August 20th to the 27th of September.

Who has inspired you as you've developed as an artist?
Kristinia DeBarge:
Nancy Wilson, Aretha Franklin, Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Guns N Roses, Bob Dylan, Gladys Knight, a lot of different influences and I wouldn't say there was just one in particular.

Whose career would you like to follow in the footsteps of?
Kristinia DeBarge:
As long as I'm singing...I would like to eventually have my own label one day and sign other artists.
The Star Scoop:
If people are going to download two songs from your album to get a feel for it, which ones would you recommend?
Kristinia DeBarge:
Well, I wouldn't want anyone to buy just two songs off of my album, but if I had to choose a couple songs, I'd have you listen to "Speak Up" and then I would have you listen to "Powerless." They're really good songs

What do you want to say directly to your fans?
Kristinia DeBarge:
I'd like to tell them that I am just like them. I go through a lot of the same things they go through. If there's ever a time that you feel like you don't know where to turn, you don't know what to do...have confidence that you can do anything. It will help you be strong.
