TheStarScoop.Com spoke with actress Joanna Cassidy about her decades-long career.

The Star Scoop:

Tell us about your current projects.

Joanna Cassidy:

I'm not doing TV right now. I'm doing a feature film with Christine Lahti, shooting in California. I finished Hawthorne but it did get a pickup for next year.

The Star Scoop:

What would you ideally like to do next if you had the choice?

Joanna Cassidy:

I'd like to do a huge feature. A sci-fi feature. Like the Bladerunner kind of thing. I'd like to do that again. Maybe I was an alien in another life. I really don't know what attracts me to that [genre]. It jus does.

The Star Scoop:

Can you tell us about your character?

Joanna Cassidy:

She's the comic relief in the movie. She's a woman who has gotten a divorce. I think there's a whole lot more to her except what I would bring to her. I like to work, so that's why I'm doing this.

The Star Scoop:

You've been working a long time and have been very successful in the business. To what do you credit that?

Joanna Cassidy:

I'm sort of like a pit-bull. I just kind of hang on. I don't give up. A lot of times in the business things seem to be getting at the end...you can't do the impossible, but then if you hang on long enough and you're tenacious, you can do the impossible. You can do what you want.

The Star Scoop:

What do you want to tell your fans?

Joanna Cassidy:

I'd like to say thank you. Thank you for being a fan. I think that's really terrific that people want to see what I do next. I think that's wonderful and I really appreciate it!

The Star Scoop:

What else can you tell us about Hawthorne?

Joanna Cassidy:

it would be nice if I am invited back next year. That would be very nice. I pretty much know I will be, but you never know until you're standing on set with a camera pointing at you. I have five feature films in the can that haven't been released yet. One with Jon Hamm. It's a really interesting movie. I play Jon Hamm's mother. One with the Polish Brothers. That's very funny. In [Stay Cool] I play Winona Ryder's mother. Four years ago I played a woman with early Alzheimer's. That's one of the sad things. Every now and again, you get a great part, you nail it, and nobody sees it? I would hope that if Hawthorne continues on, I would like to be part of another hit television show. My last hit television show was Six Feet Under and that was a fantastic memory for me and also it was wonderful being a part of that.

The Star Scoop:

Do you anticipate at least some of these being out for people to see?

Joanna Cassidy:

I don't anticipate anything anymore. I did it. I know I was good in it. If people see it, great. If they don't it's a shame. I didn't produce them so I really can't be in there pushing for them if they don't get bought.

The Star Scoop:

What have you learned being in this business for so long and being a part of so many projects?

Joanna Cassidy:

I've had a phenomenal life. Just a phenomenal life. I never planned for it. I never thought about it. I never envisioned it because I never wanted to do this. For me, it's been a joy. It's been a heartache. It's been pleasure, it's been pain. It's been everything. I do many, many other things. I write, landscaping, housing. I do numerous things. So my life is not this business, but it's one heck of a ride. I'm very happy to say that I got to be a part of this world. It's not just about getting a name for yourself. I have that. It's about doing the projects that are a turn on to the mind.

The Star Scoop:

What's next?

Joanna Cassidy:

I'm supposed to play a sexual predator. It will be interesting if that one takes place. I don't know if it is or not. I'm going to be at Chiller. It's an autograph thing on Halloween. They invited me to do that and I just think that's hysterical.
